Thatta Payaru Kuzhambu / Cow Peas Curry



Ingridients

  1. Thatta payaru/Cow peas - 1 cup
  2. Toor gram - 1/4 cup
  3. Oil - 2 tbsp
  4. Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
  5. Onion - 1 chopped
  6. Garlic - 4 cloves
  7. Green chilli - 3
  8. Tomato - 1
  9. Curry leaves
  10. Bottle gourd - 1 cup
  11. Asafoetida/Hing - a pinch
  12. Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  13. Sambar powder - 2 tbsp
  14. Salt
  15. Water
  16. Tamarind water - 2 tbsp
Method


Soak thatta payaru overnight. Pressure cook the cow peas with thoor dal,  pinch of turmeric powder, 1 tsp of oil for 7 whistles.
Heat the pan with oil, mustard seeds. Let the mustard seeds cracks, add onion, garlic, green chilli, curry leaves & tomato, saute it well. Add bottle gourd, saute well and cook for a minute.
Add turmeric powder, sambar powder, salt, hing and saute well. Add 1/2 cup of water. Keep 10 minutes to cook.
Add tamarind water, cooked thatta payaru. Add more water for consistency if need. Cook for 4-5 mins with medium flames.
Dish is ready to serve with rice and dosa.
