Thatta Payaru with Poosanikkai(Cow Peas with Pumpkin) Kuzhambu


Ingredients
Thatta payaru - 1 cup, Toor gram - 1/4 cup, Oil - 2 tbsp, Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp, Onion - 1/2 chopped, Garlic - 4 cloves, Green chilli - 3, Tomato - 1, Curry leaves, Chopped poosanikkai - 1 cup, Asafoetida/Hing - a pinch, Turmeric powder - 1 tsp, Sambar powder - 2 tbsp, Salt, Water, Tamarind water - 3 tbsp
Method


Soak thatta payaru overnight. Pressure cook the cow peas with toor gram,  pinch of turmeric powder and 1 tsp of oil for 7 whistles.
Heat the pan with oil, add mustard seeds. When it splutters add green chillli, curry leaves, onion and saute well until onion turns to golden brown. Add tomato, saute well and cook for a minute.
Add poosanikkai, turmeric powder, sambar powder, salt, a pinch of hing, add 1 cup of water and saute well.
cover the pan and let it cook for 10 minutes on the medium flame.
Add tamarind water and 1/2 cup of water to adjust the kuzhambu consistency.

Let it simmer for 5 minutes on the low flame.
Thatta  Payaru with Poosanikkai Kuzhambu is ready to serve with rice, idli and dosa.
