Get all the ingredients ready. |

Pressure cook the toor gram with 3 cups of water along with turmeric powder, 1 tsp of oil and 3 garlic cloves. Keep aside. |

Heat the pan with oil, add mustard seeds when it splutter, add green chilli, curry leaves, onion, saute well until onion turns to golden brown and add tomato. |

Add salt, turmeric powder, a pinch of hing and saute well for 30 seconds. Add pumpkin, sambar powder and saute well. |
|
Add 1 cup of water and cover the pan with lid. Cook it for 10 minutes or until the pumpkin turns soft. |
|
Add 3 tbsp of tamarind water, mix well and cook for a minute. |
|
Add the cooked toor gram, mix well and let it simmer for 5 minutes on the medium flame. |
|
Garnish the coriander leaves. |

Poosanikkai / Pumpkin Sambar is ready to serve with rice, idli and dosa. |
