Ven Pongal | Kara Pongal

Rice - 1.5 cup, Moong gram - 1/2 cup, Ghee - 4 tbsp, Cashews - 10, Cumin seeds - 1 tsp, Black pepper - 1 tsp, Curry leaves, Salt, Ginger - 1 inch


Get all the ingredients ready.
Soak the rice and moong gram for 1 hour.

In a pressure cooker, add rice, moong gram, salt, 2 tbsp of ghee and add 5 cups of water, mix well.

Cover and pressure cook for 5 whistles on medium flame.Keep aside.

Heat the pan with ghee, add chopped ginger, cashews, saute well until cashews turns to golden brown.
Add cumin, pepper, curry leaves and saute well for 20 seconds.
Pour the tempering over cooked rice with moong gram and mix well.  Add more ghee if required.
Ven Pongal | Kara Pongal is ready to serve with sambar and chutney.
